Some people choose their vocation. Mine chose me... years before I became a "professional" at it. Licensed, however, since 1996, I have been practicing in various settings as a Licensed Professional Counselor for 15 years in Beaumont, Tx. I have worked at Family Services, Community in Schools, and Buckner Children and Family Services, as well as private practice for the last 8 years.
I work with individuals, adolescents, parents, and couples. I believe that to do the most effective therapy, one also includes relationship and family therapy in the treatment, and have been very successful in this. The American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy backs up the effectiveness of therapy using the family therapy model. I look at the whole person as well in that context, which includes the physical, spiritual, emotional, relational, social, and vocational as it relates to the person's purpose, in helping the individual assess their needs, and path for growth and contentment. I am educational (cognitive-behavioral), gentle yet confrontive with compassion, intuitive, and use humor as much as possible. I believe in helping my clients maximize their strengths, while assessing weaknesses for building necessary skills to over come them.
On a personal note, I have sailed the waters of divorce, single motherhood, caregiving for an aging parent, and my share of relationship struggles. It is because of those rough waters, and not my perfection, that I have been able to help those who come to me with grace, compassion, and yes, lots of humor for a more hopeful tomorrow. It is because of these that I believe so strongly in helping you to restore, and enrich your marriage so you don't have to travel down the destructive road of divorce. It is because I know what a blessing a great relationship with your kids can be, that I want to help you achieve it. It is because of the road I have traveled that I bring you the mission of Good Therapy Works, and how much I believe it truly does.
Mission Statement
To Restore, and Renew Individuals, Relationships, and Families
What We Believe
Our Mission at Good Therapy Works is to prepare individuals for healthy and enriched relationships with others. We believe in preserving, protecting, enriching, and restoring the Family as a sacred gift, and life force for the common good of all of its members, our communities, and our world. To do this we must strengthen its structure, and its individuals and their relationships, through foundations built on selfless love, not selfish need, concepts contrary to our worldly culture. The benefits of these values are taught and experienced through education and therapy, providing a framework for the individual and/or family to learn, grow, and mature within all their relationships.
We believe that today’s worldly culture presents unrealistic, disappointing, and inconsistent expectations which create extreme levels of stress, illness, anxiety, distraction, and depression for ourselves and our families. We also believe that the deep healing needed to overcome these stressors requires straightforward examination and potential change in our values and thinking, a strengthened spiritual and relational foundation, and more intentional care to our emotional and physical health.
Our belief is that all individuals, despite and because of, mental and/or physical differences, or relational status, have unique gifts to share with their families and communities. These are deserving of the care and encouragement which nurtures and honors who they are, as well as the contributions they were meant to bring to our world.
